Hitachi
plans to have a 4TB hard drive by 2011.
Lets
start off with identifying how much a TB is. One TB is 1,024GB. So by the year
2011 Hitachi plans to offer a hard drive capable of 4096GB. The technology that
makes this possible is the head that reads the disk. The new heads will be
able to read and write onto only 30-50nm of space. That’s more then 2000 times
smaller the width of a human hair.
Hitachi plans to release some of their 50nm heads in 2009. Most likely they
will be released into their Notebook computers.
